Old Dominion Offers Machinist Diploma Program

Jamie M. Barnes

ResCare, Inc., parent company of Arbor E&T, LLC is pleased to announce a new partnership at its Old Dominion Job Corps Center. Old Dominion recently partnered with Babcock & Wilcox, Co. and Central Virginia Community College to offer a
machinist diploma program. The Memorandum of Understanding (a partnership agreement) was signed on Thursday, March 18th during a public announcement ceremony designed to inform the public and kick-off the program.

The partnership, designed to benefit all three participating institutions, will also stimulate the local economy by training local residents to do the specialized machine work instead of bringing workers in from other areas. Using a new Machine Quality Assurance Diploma program and existing Machine Tool Diploma program, CVCC is set to train the students screened and selected by Old Dominion JCC, which will also fund the students’ training. B&W, along with other companies in the area, will hire program graduates for entry-level positions opening up as existing employees are promoted and/or retire.

Present for the signing ceremony were:

  • George Sherman, VP, Central Virginia Community College
  • Nat Marshall, Senior Human Resources Specialist, Babcock & Wilcox Company
  • Danny Grimes, Center Director, Old Dominion Job Corps Center
  • Dr. Francis Cole, Regional Director, Department of Labor, Office of Job Corps
  • Winfred Nash, VP & General Manager, Babcock & Wilcox Nuclear Operations Group
  • Darryl Staat, President, Central Virginia Community College
  • John Mastroianni, Career Transition Counselor, Insights, Inc.
