The results of Arbor E&T’s first cohort of the xOUT Youth program in Oregon are incredibly positive. The program is designed to give young ex-offenders an opportunity to learn job readiness skills, build confidence, and give the participants a better shot at landing a sustainable job in the future. Those who recently completed the first cohort made positive strides toward self-sufficiency. Employers and community members are enthused about the results, and there is so much youth interest in the new program that there are already individuals on a waiting list for next year’s series.
Project Director Jim Maris states that the first cohort had an 80% completion rate and a 44% employment/internship rate, which is an impressive increase, up from about 3% for ex-offenders. Mr. Maris also said that, “participants, their families and their parole officers have all remarked that it is the best program they have seen to date.” To learn more about the program, read Arbor Oregon xOut: Part One and/or visit the Arbor Oregon website.
