(Cincinnati, OH) The Arbor operated SuperJobs One Stop Center in Cincinnati recently hosted some very important guests and received great media coverage.
The Lt. Governor of Ohio, The Mayor of Cincinnati, and other elected officials showed up for an Open House event that included a tour of the facility and a lengthy forum on how the workforce program works. Lt. Governor Lee Fisher praised SuperJobs for its effective programs. The center's job placement history particularly impressed the guests.
"You're doing a phenomenal job," Lt. Gov. Fisher told Sherry Kelley Marshall, President/CEO of the Southwest Ohio Region Workforce Investment Board which contracts with Arbor to operate the One Stop Center. "You're a model for the rest of the state."
"The SuperJobs Center is operated like a business, Marshall said in response to Lt. Gov. Fisher's question about how closely Cincinnati employers work with the center. "This WIB has been led by employers," Marshall said. About 250 area employers work with SuperJobs' Business Services Unit, which acts as a liaison between job seekers and employers.
"The key is to find out what the employer wants and supply it," said Chuck Walters, manager of the Business Services Unit. A number of Greater Cincinnati companies work directly with the BSU on entry-level hiring, including General Electric Co., Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center and the Health Alliance. Last year, SuperJobs led the state in job placements, far outpacing any other metropolitan area in Ohio.
The SuperJobs Center, on Central Parkway where the Open House was held, is the central one-stop center for job placement and training services for the City of Cincinnati and Hamilton County. It is funded through the workforce investment board by federal workforce dollars and is operated by Arbor E&T, as are two satellite locations in the area.
Arbor's Project Director Wayde Smith provided a tour and answered questions. Arbor Education & Training Regional Director for Ohio Al Thompson and several other key members of the staff and management team were also in attendance.
