(Lincoln, NE) Recently mentioned in the Lincoln Journal Star, Arbor Education and Training’s partnership with the Center for People in Need is receiving positive feedback from its TANF (Temporary
Assistance for Needy Families) program participants. The Center serves as a worksite for TANF recipients, where they learn sustainable job skills and gain on-the-job training experience.“Arbor provides volunteers for the Center to carry out the programs they offer,” Arbor Program Manager Cherisa Price-Wells said. “Arbor in Lincoln has a TANF contract and in exchange for the benefits TANF recipients receive from the Department of Health and Human Services, they participate in community service, gain work experience or partake in other activities that lead to self-sufficiency.”
As with all Arbor programs, each person is encouraged to achieve his or her highest potential. Case managers and job skills developers assist the people Arbor serves, regardless of educational levels or capabilities, and all participants are encouraged to learn basic computer skills.
Arbor has successfully partnered with the state of Nebraska to provide human services since 1985 and, according to the TANF Work Participation Contractor Performance Measures for March 2009, Arbor is exceeding the work participation rate set by the federal government and contract agreements.
