A prime supporter of the event, Arbor Largo ensured that clients had an opportunity to connect with employers from across the Greater Washington, DC region, including the Department of the Navy, Verizon, Humphrey Management, and the Internal Revenue Service. In all, 600 Arbor E&T clients from the Arbor E&T locations (Largo, MD, Montgomery County, MD, and Washington, DC offices) attended the Mega Job Expo.
“Finding a job during tough economic times can be overwhelming for our clients, and many of the other job seekers who attended the Expo,” says Warren Burris, Senior Director of Arbor in Largo, MD. “Partnering with Delegate Taylor helped us extend our reach and match our clients with great career opportunities,” Burris continues.
Arbor Largo staff served on the planning committee to ensure the event’s success. Warren Burris, Glenn Best, Community Services Manager, Mark Johnson, (Job Developer, and Rodney Dixon, Job Developer, have been involved since early 2009 with the planning for the Mega Job Expo.
Arbor E&T’s Regional Director, Stephen Perales, traveled to Maryland to see the partnership in action. “We know that the economy continues to be of concern. We also recognize that many companies are doing well and face an avalanche of resumes (from job seekers),” Perales says. Participating companies benefited from Arbor’s pre-screened, trained clients, many of whom were interviewed onsite for available jobs during the Mega Job Expo.
According to Warren Burris, providing job opportunities is paramount for Arbor E&T, enabling job seekers to feed their families and contribute to the workplace. For Perales, collaborating with the community enhances the company’s involvement, who says, ultimately, “That’s what enables Arbor E&T to have a greater impact in the community.”
More than 200 employers, many with multiple career opportunities available, participated in the Mega Job Expo. Arbor will participate in the Mega Job Expo again in 2010. For more information about the Mega Job Expo, visit www.megajobexpomd.com.
