SuperJobs Seasonal Hiring

By Sheila Veits Roth

Now that the holiday shopping season is upon us, how much shopping do you plan to do?

Retailers must determine how much staff they need to accommodate the rush of shoppers every year, and while some retailers are scaling back because of the recession, many businesses in Greater Cincinnati are hiring.

At the Cincinnati SuperJobs Center, two major employers held hiring events in November to ramp up for the holiday rush: Panera Bread and T.J. Maxx.  The two employers are looking for around 35 employees to supplement their workforce for the holiday season.  Some advice for seasonal job seekers:

  • Start applying early and dress appropriately
  • Do your homework about prospective employers
  • Show enthusiasm during the interview
  • Be flexible about your schedule

Chuck Walters, Business Services Manager at SuperJobs, has seen reports that recruiters nationwide are posting more seasonal positions online this year than last year.  Eighteen percent of hiring managers surveyed by Career Builder earlier this fall said they planned to make seasonal hires, compared to 17 percent in 2008.  “Even though the increases in seasonal employees are small,” said Walters, “it is still encouraging.”
