Tremendous Project in Cincinnati

Special thanks to Sherry Kelley Marshall, President/CEO of the Southwest Ohio Region Workforce Investment Board, for her assistance with this article.
(Cincinnati, Ohio) – The Banks of Cincinnati is a tremendous mixed-use land development project along a stretch of the Ohio River in Hamilton County. When the project is completed, it will serve as a “live, work, and play” community with housing and stadiums,
hotels, retail venues and a 45-acre park.
Begun in 2007, the project is a partnership between Carter, a privately held full-service commercial real estate firm; The Dawson Company, a commercial and residential real estate development firm; the City of Cincinnati; and Hamilton County. Requiring 22% of the
labor be performed by minority or women-owned firms and offering job training programs for disadvantaged and minority workers, The Banks is a model of diversity and cooperation. The Joint Economic Inclusion Policy of the
Banks Project includes both workforce development and small business development efforts. On the Workforce Development side, the Southwest Ohio Region Workforce Investment Board and its SuperJobs Center one-stop is specifically named to
assist with recruitment of workers and preparation of candidates through an Employee Readiness Program. Phase 1 of the project, which includes apartments and retail space, is slated for completion next year.
In a recent meeting between Cincinnati Mayor Mark Mallory, Commissioner David Pepper and contractor and sub-contractor representatives, congratulations were offered for the intensive progress made on the project. Additionally, the diversity and workforce inclusion standards of
The Banks were praised. Notably, the mayor and commissioner continued to encourage contractors and subcontractors to connect with the SuperJobs Center for assistance with future job openings at The Banks.
Arbor E&T, LLC is the Southwest Ohio Region Workforce Investment Board’s contractor for the center, and has worked as part of the Banks project from the beginning, including a special “construction corner” in the front entranceway of the SuperJobs Center, and
specific supports for those interested in any construction related employment or training opportunities. Sherry Kelley Marshall, President/CEO of the Southwest Ohio Region Workforce Investment Board, expressed appreciation for the partnership with the City and the County to assure diversity in public investments through partnership with the urban SuperJobs Center.
